L’activité de soins de traitement du cancer consiste à traiter les tumeurs solides malignes ou les hémopathies malignes. Ce traitement est médical, chirurgical ou réalisé par radiothérapie externe, par curiethérapie, ou par utilisation thérapeutique de radioéléments en sources non scellées.

Le dispositif d’autorisation en cancérologie, mis en place en 2009, est le fruit d’un travail concerté entre le ministère de la Santé, l’INCa, les fédérations hospitalières, les professionnels de santé et la Ligue contre le cancer. La chirurgie du cancer, la radiothérapie et la chimiothérapie sont concernées. Un établissement peut demander une autorisation pour une seule de ces activités, ou plusieurs. Tous les établissements sont concernés, qu’ils soient publics ou privés.

Les autorisations ont été délivrées aux établissements de santé par les Agences régionales de l’hospitalisation (ARH) courant 2009. Elles reposent sur la mise en place dans les établissements autorisés de 6 mesures de qualité transversales applicables à la prise en charge de tous les malades atteints de cancer, le respect de seuils d’activité minimale et la conformité à des critères d’agrément définis par l’INCa pour chaque modalité de traitement du cancer : chirurgie des cancers, chimiothérapie et radiothérapie. Les autorisations seront confirmées définitivement à l’issue d’une période de mise en conformité de 18 mois, qui prendra fin au plus tard en mai 2011.
