French term

vision profonde et longue

Non-PRO French to English Other General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters
Bonsoir,

A deep vision on/of a landscape?

Thank you Daryo!

Daryo Jun 30, 2017:
The explanation is right there in the next sentence: you can see clearly what's quite far away, the visibility is not reduced by the dust or vapour in the air. That's what is said in this ST, but in my experience heavy rain is much better at increasing visibity (once it's passed) to astonishing distances.

a sweeping view

The term "sweeping" covering both "longue" and "profonde"...
Peer comment(s):

agree Verginia Ophof : agree that sweeping cover both, but perhaps it can be broken down to a clear/wide (profond) and sweeping view

Thanks Verginia. I considered using an extra adjective but decided it would be redundent. :-)

Thanks writeaway. But isn't it the case most of the time? I don't remember the last time I posted a question...because I was really stuck. // it's rather amusing (about what you said before and deleted after)
agree JohnMcDove : Which perception is not subjective? /../ You're welcome. Well, I was in doubt whether to use a "!" or use a "?", so I left it at a "?", I guess my subjective knowledge is still too shallow to be totally objective. ;-)

Thank you John - whether you are making a statement or asking a question...:)//Objectivity, too, is in the eye of the beholder...:)
disagree Daryo : It's not about subjective "impressions" [be it shallow or in-depth] - it's simply down to earth what's called in aviation "visibility" how far away you can see clearly objects, instead of mist or haze.

OK. I interpreted it from a painter's artistic viewpoint.

an in-depth perspective

in-depth for 'profonde' and perspective gives the idea of distance (longue).
