agree neilmac : Asker seems more concerned with the Spanish than the translation per se. I'm curious to know what the "bujía" is....

bujía = bougie/tube

SIZE OF BOUGIE
Bougie is used to calibrate the stomach. Despite the large numbers of sleeve gastrectomy cases, there is still no consensus on the size of bougie to be used. There are especially two aspects about the size of bougie; that it can affect Excess weight loss (EWL) rate and cause leaks. Especially staple line leaks are rare but very important. On the other hand, EWL rate is seemed as a success of the operation by people.

[---]

Weiner et al. investigated, in 120 patients, influence of sleeve size and gastric volume with comparing different size of bougie (32F-44F) and no calibration. They found similar results in the entire group on the rate of EWL. The non calibrated group showed a slight weight regain. However the best results in the rate of EWL, after 2 years, were observed in the most restrictive group (32F).

I checked out the doctors in Mexico, USA AND INDIA and most are well versed/good at the procedure, they tend to use the correct number and size of incisions to go in laproscopically i.e. 1, 10mm and the others 5mm; they also look at the individuals stomach to determine the narrowness of the tube/bougie size, ranging from 32f through to 42f, possibly there are larger bougies out there; though some stick with one tried and tested bougie size usually 34f to prevent stomach twisting, slippage into chest cavity, reflux etc.

Between March 2011 and January 2014, 102 morbidly obese patients underwent LSG. These patients were divided into two groups: group 1 (50 patients) and group 2 (52 patients). In group 1, 32-Fr bougies (orogastric calibration tube) were used, and in group 2 40-Fr bougies were used. Patients completed at least 6 months of follow-up visits.
