Market imperfection

An imperfect market is a market that is not allocating resources effectively, i.e. when the price mechanisms leads to an inefficient equilibrium of the supply and demand of a particular good or service. This happens in many cases. We discuss three options below.

One party (either the buyer or seller) has more information than the other, leading to price discrimination (e.g. differential pricing for medicines and drugs, situation of monopoles). As a result, the price of the good or service is not determined by the assessment of full information, and one party is having to make an uneducated assessment of the opportunity costs and other perceived benefits.

Asymmetry in information generates two types of outcomes:
 Adverse selection: Where one agent’s decision depends on unobservable characteristics that adversely affect other agents – e.g. used-automobile market
 ***Moral hazard***: A contract is signed among agents with one agent being dependent on unobservable actions of other agents – e.g. insurance market


Wie würdet ihr hier "moral hazard" übersetzen? Die auf Linguee angebotenen Lösungen scheinen hier jedenfalls nicht zu passen. Es gab zwar schon mal eine Kudoz-Frage (http://www.proz.com/kudoz/english_to_german/bus_financial/94... wo "ethisches Risiko" als Übersetzung gewählt wurde, aber das scheint hier nicht so recht zur nachfolgenden Definition zu passen.
