pen/quill Explanation: Cleaning a squid to remove its inedible parts The head, eyes, internal organs, beak and pen (or quill) of the squid are inedible http://www.squidcleaning.com/cleaning-squid.php Cuttlefish are fine to eat. A few people prefer them over squid. You tend to get a triangle of meat rather than the rings though. No stingers, but beware of the beak. To prepare squid I rip the head off, pull most of the guts out, then pull the quill out. (Having a bucket of water nearby is good to clean your hands/the squid/ink). http://fishwrecked.com/forum/easiest-way-prepare-squid Clean and prepare the fresh squid. Pull the tentacles away from the body. Remove the quill from inside the body and discard. Clean the body by running it under a tap or cleaning it in a bowl of water. http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/squidwithmintchillic_90292 To clean body portion: remove the pen-a quill shaped, translucent rudimentary bone in the back of the body. http://articles.chicagotribune.com/1987-10-08/entertainment/... |
