"case" se refere a CAse Hardening, um tipo de tratamento térmico que forma uma "casquinha" mais dura enquanto o material na região mais profunda permanece relativamente maleável. Case-hardening or surface hardening: process of hardening the surface of a metal object while allowing the metal deeper underneath to remain soft, thus forming a thin layer of harder metal (called the "case") at the surface.
