What the theory below says is that for a the power delivered by a laser, its shape follows the well known Gauss bell. In this graph there are two points (one at each side of the centre of the beam where the the irradiance value is 0.135 of maximum irradiance. That is by definición the diameter of the beam, while the spot size of the beam is the radius
made from the centre of the beam to the point 0.135 in the Gauss bell.
Now, this means that the spot size is equal to half of the diameter of the beam. So the term "beam spot size" is equal to half the beam diameter. In Spanish would be: El tamaño del Spot del Haz

• Beam Spot Size: Beam Diameter is defined as the distance across the center of the beam for which the irradiance(I) equals 0.135 of the maximum irradiance. The spot size of the beam is the radial distance from the center of maximum irradiance to the 0.135 point.

No hubo una forma genera para traducir la palabra Spot Size. Algunos lo llamaban tamaño del Spot, otros tamaño del punto, pero no hubo consenso.
