French term

dermite annulaire granulomateuse du sujet jeune

French to English Medical Medical (general) Dermatology
I am translating a dermatological quiz which ask participants to identify a condition involving a persistent enlargement of the lower lip from a description of symptoms. It finishes with a list of options including ‘dermite annulaire granulomateuse du sujet jeune’. I have translated this directly as ‘juvenile annular granulomatous dermatitis’ but can’t find any reference to this condition. Interstitial granulomatous dermatitis and granuloma annulare are also given on the list, so clearly it doesn’t refer to those conditions.

Does anyone know the correct English term for ‘dermite annulaire granulomateuse du sujet jeune’?
thanks
Sue

Hi everyone, thanks for posting and for your suggestions. Firstly my profuse apologies, the agency sent me a case description and a set of answers that were not matching! and I wasn't aware of this when I posted the question this morning. i.e. this is not necessarily an oral pathology. However the problem is the same i.e. both and I and Liz have been unable to find any reference to this condition on a French website. There is no context as I wasn't sent the case description and this term was just given as one of a long list of skin conditions for participants to choose from. I contacted the agency, and they have just suggested annular dermatitis which as far as I can see isn't a specific condition. I am wondering if the client has got this wrong (there is a condition - Annular Lichenoid Dermatitis of Youth).

I like the suggestion of "angular" as the adjective. Would fit as a further descriptor of "orofacial granulomatosis".
liz askew Mar 11, 2016:
p.s. you highlight "lip inflammation", well I can find nothing with ring-shaped lesions related to lip inflammation. All I can find is "angular" - a possible typo for "annulaire"?

Perhaps you could list all the symptoms of this condition.

What is bothering me is that I am unable to find "dermite annulaire granulomateuse du sujet jeune" on any French site. Do you have any more references to this phrase on any French site, or do you have a description of the condition itself.
Dermatology is one of the most difficult subjects to translate.

Granulomatous annular dermatitis in a young subject

This is simply a descriptive phrase. The only term in the sample that is a disease is the word dermatitis. Don't use the word "childhood" because that implies the the condition is a distinct entity that occurs in childhood. No, it is just dermatitis that happens to be occuring in a "young" patient. Don't use the term "granulomatosis". That is a distinct entity. The lesion is dermatitis with a granulomatous appearance. Why does everyone feel the need to play amateur pathologist? Just translate what it says.
