French term
empâtement
French to English
Medical
Medical (general)
This term appears in the physical examination report on a patient who suffered a right shoulder injury. The sentence in question reads as follows: “La palpation de la région sternoclaviculaire et acromio-claviculaire du côté gauche est indolore et ne démontre aucune chaleur, aucun empattement.” I assume that “empattement” should be “empâtement”. If so, does “empâtement” here refer to thickening (such as the thickening of tendons)?

is probably more likely in this case even if thickening is a possibility for tendons.
