no fixed time Explanation: "There is again no fixed production time for the *Träger* of the motorway chapel." "Träger" could mean a whole range of things (or persons) here, depending on the context. It could be pillars, beams, brackets or even, as you have chosen, sponsors. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 36 mins (2015-12-10 12:01:44 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Or perhaps, if there already had been a fixed production time, something along the lines of "We're back to having no fixed production time for the ..." |

Completion (date) is once again uncertain Explanation: Sounds to me that there is a renewed delay in completing manufacture of the parts (Träger), which could be for any number of reasons. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 9 hrs (2015-12-10 20:42:11 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- That should read: Sounds to me like there is... Sorry |

die Fertungszeit ist wieder offen the production schedule is still not finalised Explanation: Wieder means again, no doubt, but here it seems to convey the idea of 'still', IMO. offen --> still not finalised -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 day16 hrs (2015-12-12 03:39:09 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- An afterthought: As in the source text, we can avoid the negative ('not') in English by saying the production schedule is still to be finalised -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 day16 hrs (2015-12-12 03:49:26 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Still or yet ? Negatives with 'yet' mean that something has not happened up to now: I haven’t spoken to Henry about the car yet. Negatives with 'still' suggest that the situation should have changed, but it has not: I still haven’t found my passport. I know it’s here somewhere. (I’ve been looking for it for a long time. I should have found it by now) http://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/grammar/british-grammar/a... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 day16 hrs (2015-12-12 03:51:50 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Some food for thought for you there. Cheers :-) |

The production time is undecided again Explanation: "wieder offer" means it is re-occurring, therefore, "still" wouldn't be appropriate. "Still" would be the right term if it was "noch offen". In the context that has been provided, "Träger" seems to be the only acceptable translation for "beams" and does make sense in the complete sentence. In relationship to people it does not fit at all. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2 days14 hrs (2015-12-13 02:11:51 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Instead of "undecided", "not specified" would be a good alternative when it comes to technical terms. The duration for manufacturing the beams of the highway chapel is not specified again. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2 days17 hrs (2015-12-13 05:05:53 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- the manufacturing time refers to the "Träger", therefore, it cannot be "sponsor". -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 3 days15 hrs (2015-12-14 03:00:11 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- As an afterthought: The manufacturing schedule for the beams of the highway chapel is again not specified. Reference: unclear, unknown, undetermined Reference information: ... that's what "offen" means here. Not sure what the best way to express this in English would be. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 4 mins (2015-12-10 11:29:34 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- And think again about "sponsor". ;-) |
