Nei link allegati troverai molte traduzioni, ma secondo me dovrai tenerti sul generico "donazioni".
La radice significa "costituzione di dote", come da definizione dell'ottima Shera Lynn. Potrebbe essere un "lascito", ma allora dovresti sapere per certo che si tratta di soldi ricevuti per eredità da un defunto (impossibile). Molte donazioni vengono da TRUST costituiti appositamente soprattutto ai fini fiscali, ma dalla descrizione non puoi sapere neanche questo. "Sovvenzione" e "sussidio" da noi si usano in genere per interventi pubblici ai vari livelli. Insomma, lo Endowment Fund è un calderone in cui affluiscono tutti i vari tipi di donazione.
Se "donazioni" ti sembra troppo generico, allora "fondo di dotazione" come da Repubblica. Buon lavoro!

Asker: Ciao Pompeo. In effetti dopo aver cercato un po' su Google optavo per "fondo di dotazione di ricerca". Volevo essere solo sicura al 100%. Vedo che me lo confermi quindi non sono troppo lontana. Grazie mille e buon fine settimana:-)

neutral  Pompeo Lattanzi: Non mi sembra che "fund" (=fondo, cioé i soldi) possa essere considerato intercambiabile con "funding" (=finanziamento, cioé l'attività connessa). Francamente non mi sembrano esempi da imitare.
