Portuguese term

CORDA

Portuguese to English Tech/Engineering Construction / Civil Engineering bridge construction
This term has come up in a technical Survey of a trelice type bridge construction, where the surveying engineer is assessing the weights of various components of the bridge to calculate bending forces and stresses etc.
I am wondering if it is some sort of steel work (cordon??) for a walkway under the bridge or something?

Here follows some text:

Andy Yea, it's a real bugger when you don't have diagrams or pics with this type of work. Good luck.

I understand your doubt. I think this can help you, Andrew: http://www.differencebetween.info/difference-between-cable-a...
Andrew Hunt (asker) Feb 23, 2015:
Cables, or stays or braces was the first thing I thought of here, especially as it is a suspension typw bridge but I was put off by the expression "perfis da corda" - we dont usually refer to the 'profile' of a wire stya or brace and also does not make much sense but u could be correct I am in some doubts here

CHORD

Bottom chord, nesse exemplo.

wire

A wire is a single strand or a group of strands of an electrically conductive material, usually aluminum or copper.

Uses: To bear mechanical loads, to carry electricity and telecommunications signals (...) Since the text refers to something that is assessing the weights of components...I think it is the correct term due to the context.
