Das ***Totraum-Verhältnis*** ist definiert durch das Verhältnis von Eintrittslänge (L) zu Durchmesser des Eintrittsrohres (D). Je kleiner das Totraum-Verhältnis desto besser ist die Reinigbarkeit.

Type 481, 483 und 488 bieten ein optimiertes Lösungskonzept für Sicherheitsventile mit Klemmverbindungen. Sie haben ein ***Totraum-Verhältnis*** von L/D < 1,5 bzw. 2,0 (Type 488). Die Anforderungen der ASME BPE Part SD – 3.11.1 (L/D < 2,0) und FDA 21 CFR Part 177.2600 (L/D < 1,5) sind durch diese Konstruktion erfüllt.

Für einige Anwendungen, speziell in der pharmazeutischen Industrie, sind die gestellten Anforderungen erheblich höher. Die Lösung für diese hochreinen Anforderungen bieten die Typen 484 oder 485 mit ihren speziellen Anschlüssen an Behälter oder Rohrleitung und einem ***Totraum-Verhältnis*** von L/D < 0,33.
