French term or phrase: chevaux à entretien
This is from a brochure about horse feed. The company has different types of feed for different types of horses, including 'chevaux de sport' (sport horses), 'chevaux de selle' (riding horses) and, going further down the scale, 'chevaux a l'entretien', which I take to mean horses with a lower level of activity, perhaps ones which are just kept more like pets rather than worked? I'm stuck on how to render 'chevaux a l'entretien' in English. I've toyed with 'kept horses' but don't like it very much. Would anyone be able to help? Thanks so much in advance!

Explanation:
I found this website, maybe it could fit the bill;

"Our resident horses are not adoptable, usually because they have serious health problems or are just a little too old to adapt to a new home. They still enjoy attention and grooming, and, of course, we need help with ongoing costs for their medical care and feed."

Example sentence(s):
  • One forage may prove to be an acceptable complete diet for a maintenance horse while the same forage may have inadequate levels of protein necessary for a weanling or deficient levels of energy required by a sport horse.
  • If a maintenance horse is in good or better-than-good body condition (a 6+) from their hay or pasture alone, they really don’t need more calories in the diet.

horses at rest or in light work

Explanation:
When I used to help out with hunt horses they were described as being at rest in the summer, out to pasture and basically on holiday.

I found this reference:

Hi-Fi ORIGINAL is the original high-fibre mainenance feed for leisue horses and ponies. ideal for providing horses and ponies at rest or in light work with a high fibre diet. From http://www.dengie.com/horse-feeds/hi-fi/hi-fi-original/<p...
HippoStar Polo is a complete food for horses and ponies with a light work or at rest.

Our Leisure Mix and High Fibre Nuts are ideal for horses and ponies that are good doers, at rest or in light work. From http://www.dodsonandhorrell.com/our-feeds/restlight-work/hac...
