French term

procès verbal

French to English Law/Patents Law (general) notice to clean up site
Hi,
I have a document entitled "Mise en demeure préalable à procès verbal" and although I am aware of the various translations of procès verbal, I'm not sure exactly what is being threatened in this case. Official notice prior to service of a summons/instigation of legal proceedings/filing of formal complaint?
The mise en demeure is to do with a manufacturer of chemical products that had been asked by the labour inspectorate to clean up its premises (ventilation, renovation, etc.) and didn't do so.
Could anyone help? Many thanks

it's a formal warning (mise en demeure) to let the boss know that if nothing is done he will get a PV with all of its legal consequences (fine, court proceedings and so on...)
The PV in itself is a written document that will enumerate all the breaches to the relevant regulations and the potential punishments linked to them.

report

As I understand it, the notice is issued by the inspectorate as a last chance for corrective action to be taken. If it is not taken, then a report would be made/issued to the prosecuting body.

citation

depends of legislation - report, ticket, etc.
Note from asker:
Yes, I also found that citation was the "North American" term for a "summons to appear in court" (Oxford dictionaries) among other things so this would be find for a US English translation but mine's UK.

agree rkillings : Interestingly, the *primary* meaning of this word in the OED: 'a summons, or the document containing it'. (The other meaning we all know -- 'quoting words or written passage' -- is meaning 3.)
