French term
carotte
French to English
Tech/Engineering
Metallurgy / Casting
Sheet metalwork
Table d’assemblage équipée de deux pinces et d’une *carotte* pour utiliser la soudure électrique par point.
This sentence occurs in a description of machinery found in a factory producing furniture made out of sheet metal. I have found 'bore plug' or 'boring core' in Termium/GDT and here in KudoZ, but this seems to apply to cast metal (Bouchon formé dans le trou de coulée par la solidification intempestive de la fonte.)
I have also found 'sprue' but this also applies to pouring metal into a mould.

: What is required here is a description of the machinery, not a procedure.

Clearance
It has two clamps and a clearance for the spot welding electrodes - they have to contact the work from the top and bottom and you can't do that if there is a table in the way. The only question is whether the clearance is a hole in the table or a V-shaped cutout.
