What is a reference driver?
"Windows(or other O/S) requires "display driver" to make the VGA card work. nVidia provides VGA card manufacturers with a "driver" so that they can customize it for their own use. This "driver" is referred to as the "reference driver". When nVidia updates the "reference driver", VGA card manufacturers update their display driver based on the "reference driver". If you have a TNT or Geforce VGA card, it is likely that your display driver is based on an old reference driver."
