Refers to the crest of some birds like the cockatoo family, to which the Filipino kalangay or abukay (Philippine cockatoo) is a part of. Do you think I can safely translate it as "palong" like that of the rooster? Thanks.

I agree that "palong" would be the closest term for cockatoo's crest similar to that of the rooster's.

But, be aware that rooster's crest is called comb. Also, according to some references' definition, crest includes the mane of a horse and there's no way we can call it "palong."
