After the jury panel (for thesis evaluation) being presented, the student has a given period of time to... opor suspspeição.

I am thinking along the following lines:
refuse
present request for exemption
request exemption
present motion for exemption
but
I do think a motion should only be presented in court, which is not the case here. Furthermore, I do find the use of the term suspicion too strong, although I also find it too strong in Portuguese. And it is clear that I am at a loss here... :)

Can anyone pls. help me?

I think this would do. As the Wikipedia article explains, the grounds for objection vary between countries. In Brazil, it is for suspicion that the juror might not be impartial in the case.
