@Eleni, Whereas I agree that 'land tax'=Έγγειος φόρος, what about ' Stamp duty'?? Nadia is, probably, dealing with a back translation. Here we are dealing with the translation of a term from one language to an other, originating in TWO Countries WITH DIFFERENT TAXATION SYSTEMS. In the UK there is NO LAND TAX as such. You don't pay 'Tax' on land you own(excepting Taxes for Property on land, called 'Council Tax'). In the UK, we pay tax, called 'STAMP DUTY' (NO REFERENCE TO LAND) ON TRANSFERRING OWNERSHIP OF PROPERTY, the amount of it scaled on the SUM of money exchanged for the transaction. And, we certainly DON'T put stamps( χαρτόσημα) on any contracts, receipts etc. as was(is) the system in Greece or Cyprus. The idea originated in the UK when 'Stamps' were used, as wa(is) in Greece. Buying the 'stamps' was paying the tax!! So, in the UK, saying you pay STAMP DUTY' refers to the tax you pay for the TRANSFER OF PROPERTY from one party to an other. Therefore, IF the text ORIGINATED IN THE UK. Then, MY translation for 'STAMP DUTY' would be ΦΟΡΟΣ/ΤΕΛΟΣ ΜΕΤΑΒΙΒΑΣΕΩΣ (γης, ακινήτου, περιουσίας...) Στην Ελλάδα δυνατό να έχετε κάτι άλλο. Δεν καταλαμβαίνω γιατι 'Stamp duty Land Tax' ομως.
