Discussion

Peter Close Oct 25, 2012:
Well done! It shows what one happens when we try to write answers in a hurry. You will notice from many of my Kudoz texts that I often omit words. This is not because I do not know that the words should be included, but because I do not always check the text before I press submit. In the same way, I sometimes write the same words twice or unintentionally misspell a word due to typing a letter twice instead of once. You will see though that everywhere else (i.e., in the box with my answer explanation and website examples), I have spelt apartment with one 'p', and not two.
transphy Oct 25, 2012:
Apartment with ONE 'p'. Peter and I had the same oversight!!!
Peter Close Oct 25, 2012:
Transphy, haven't you ever heard of the English term, "Window dresser"? A "window dresser" is a person who arranges a display and the decoration of a shop window. The same term is very widely used in England to apply to the interior design and decoration of internal spaces such as homes, shop interiors and other premises. It may not be a term that is used widely by foreigners living in England, but it is widely used by English people living in England.
Peter Close Oct 25, 2012:
Dress and dress up are terms that are also very widely used by English people in England. The asker asked for translations of "επενδύω ένα διαμέρισμα" and you suggested the English language equivalents of "διακοσμητής εσωτερικών χώρων", "σχεδιασμός εσωτερικών χώρων", "σχεδιαστής εσωτερικών χώρων" and "διακοσμιμένο βάση σχεδίου εσωτερικού χώρου".
transphy Oct 25, 2012:
Yes, Americans can talk of 'dressing up' as the English talk of 'sprucing up' or even 'dolling up' but one never hears of 'dressers up' or 'sprucers up' or even 'dolly uppers. The Profesionals talk of Interior Designers, Interior Design, Interior Designed Flat.
Peter Close Oct 25, 2012:
Excuse me, but isn't translation accuracy important when providing answers to askers' questions? If you were to take Transphy's suggested meaning, the translation of "interior designed apartment" would surely be "επενδυμένο διαμέρισμα". As far as I understood it, the asker was asking for a translation of "επενδύω ένα διαμέρισμα" and not of "επενδυμένο διαμέρισμα".

Sorry, that should have been, "There are many ways to dress up an apartment to make it seem as if you own it."

neutral transphy : Yes, a GIRLY Americanism English people DON'T properly use, like they don't talk of 'appartment' but FLAT.

If you think the term "dress up" is a "girly Americanism", you obviously don't know English as well as I thought you did.
agree Nadia-Anastasia Fahmi : And a great day and wonderful weekend to you too, Peter!

Interior designed flat/appartmen.

Interior Design embodies everything internal in a flat. furnishings( hard and soft), colour schemes, positioning of furniture, plants, kitchens, bathroome etc.
