it`s not a substitute for "beleving" or "ervaring", but I thought about involvement, for people experience through involvement.

I think that experience is the best translation (it has a wide and accurate range), although I`m tempted to find something that concerns evaluation, awareness, feeling, sensation, etc.
Although experience sounds a bit stiff, I can`t find a better one...hm...

: - perception is not always experience and vice versa. I really meant that you can use perception but should not confuse it with experience as Alisson says.
