track assignment Explanation: Well, from my work in electronics, for a connector, Pinbelegung is pin assignment, so this might not be far off. The link says: "As trains approach the receiving yard, the yardmaster assigns a track whose number is diplayed to the engineer by a signal light." Should at least "get you on the right track." :) Reference: http://trainweb.org/railnuts/yard.html |

track occupation Explanation: "Track circuits allow railway signalling systems to operate semi-automatically, by displaying signals for trains to slow down or stop in the presence of occupied track ahead of them. They help prevent dispatchers and operators from causing accidents, both by informing them of track occupancy and by preventing signals from displaying unsafe indications." I usually use "occupation", but "occupancy" is also used. Reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Track_circuit |

"Train on line" indication Explanation: Seldom do I use "5", but I do here. Unfortunately, as so often happens, the German is defective. It omits the key word, and that is "Anzeige". In fact, both "track occupation" and "... assignment" are correct as translations of the term given, but that is not what the context says; it's only when a train is detected on the rails that a signal is generated. The point is, the system of itself cannot cause "track occupation"; there has to be a train there, and that creates the indication. |
