A vast majority (90%) of executives surveyed also said they believe that the EU’s expansion will have a positive impact on foreign direct investment. More than half of the respondents (52 percent) said they believe that expansion will spur new investment, and 31 percent said they believe that the planned expansion has already encouraged significant inflows that will continue. However, only a minority suggested that enlargement would affect corporate investment decisions; 21 percent of respondents thought their companies would invest in new capital, and 19 percent said their companies would invest in *** follow-on capital ***, in the accession countries as a result of expansion.
