Portuguese term

leito encaixado

Portuguese to English Science Geography Study of a region's hydrography
Can't seem to find the English term for this. It's a caption of a photo of a river. The area's hydrography is being analysed for proposals to implement an industrial plant. Thanks for your help!

I'm not sure there is a word in English for this. I found chine and gorge, but both seem much "deeper" than a "leito encaixado."
