English term

Respondent

English to Spanish Law/Patents Law (general)
I would like to know what will be the best way to translate this phrase from American English into Latin American Spanish.

It's the translation of a lawyers deposition transcript for The New York State Courts.

Will be okay to translate the English term "Respondent" as "acusado
o demandado?

Here is the full phrase: Examination under oath.

Miguel Saenz, taken by the respondent, held at the law offices........
Proposed translations (Spanish)
4 +8 demandado

Selected

demandado

That's what I always use.
Example sentence:

Such reference is relevant to default of appearance by the respondent.

esta remisión es relevante para el supuesto de incomparecencia o rebeldía del demandado.

agree Mónica Algazi : Sí, porque "aacusado" sería si se tratara de una acción penal.
