I'm pretty sure you have a typo there for 'crapaudine', which returns a great many more Ghits, and even figures in the GDT!
However, it's a highly ambiguous term ('some kind of straining device'), so you'd be unwise to commit yourself without seeking further details from the customer.
Could be a cast-iron grating for a drain, one of those wire 'balloon' things to stop leaves clogging your rainwater downpipes, ... and no doubt several other similar devices, perhaps more likely to need replacing.
