I don't know if this is the specific term used in bottling, but in other fields, this is certainly one term I have come across.

As you say, it is more appropriate for something like a bottle cap, where the thread doesn't actually go very far.

Very many bottle caps these days have this kind of thread, I guess it gives users greater choice of start position when closing the bottle after use!
