Alzheimerology (understandable but NOT official) Explanation: Yes it exists but it is like in French "It is this conceptual shift that is the source of the development of modern “ Alzheimerology,” which began in the 1960s" In an hospital the department taking in charge Alzheimer patients is Neurology. Alzheimmerology is being worded like a specialty but does not belong to the neurology subspecialties (that is to say there is no OFFICIAL certification in Alzheimmerology YET) See specialties and subspecialties chart of the American board of medical specialties http://www.abms.org/who_we_help/physicians/specialties.aspx BUT I would say that it is a term that is 100% understandable (but would pretty much irritate purists) Depending 100% on which type of "paper" you are translating, you can choose to use it or not.... I.e: I think I would surely not use it on a clinical trial publication, but I would use it in a press article (after agreement of the client). But that's only my opinion. My source? My own certification in Clinical Research.... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2 hrs (2011-06-14 17:46:14 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Ohhhhh, then it COULD BE that your client deliberately used the term in French to avoid the huuuuuge amount of emails he would have received from purists if he has written " Alzheimerology".... |
