German term

Komplex

German to English Medical Medical: Health Care
This is one item on a lab bill. The whole line reads "Komplex (kl. Blutbild)". GOÄ number 3550 i.e. "Blutbild und Blutbildbestandteile". I've never come across "Komplex" in this context before. Is this the name of a test or does it indicate that this is a more complex blood count than usual - and if so, why is it not more expensive? Very grateful for any ideas.

package/bundle/group

Low CL as I am not sure of the term that would actually be used in English, though I think that this is the sense. It is referring to payment for a package, bundle or group of services or procedures in contrast to a single service, or at least to a service classified within a specific group of services. See the following links:

25 Plans to change the reimbursement method of physicians have been introduced by the 1993 Health Care Act. In short, the move is towards reimbursing physicians on the basis of so-called service groups (Leistungskomplexe), rather then on a fee-for-service basis (NERA,
1993:27).

Doctors are paid mostly on a fee-for-service basis. According to the Health Structure Act of 1993, the individual codes listed in the EBM are supposed to be bundled into service groups (Leistungskomplexe) and flat rates defined for each group. However, these provisions of the social
code have been implemented only for very few procedures. The EBM is not only a fee schedule, it also defines the services (methods and procedures) that are covered by the social health insurance funds. Procedures that are not listed in the EBM are not subject to general coverage by the SHI funds.

kl. Blutbild= less complex than a usual blood count

Kleines Blutbild is definitely less complex(comprehensive) than a grosses Blutbild, it serves as an overview only ( no differential counts, etc.).

However, what the noun "Komplex" could mean here, I do not know. I suggest you omit it.
