buongiorno,
parto con la mia bella sfilzetta di dubbi.
Situazione: la ragazza scopre una serie di cose che sostengono la versione dei fatti raccontata dal ragazzo e cui lei stentava a credere.

He asked her, “Are you at least willing to concede that there might be something to what I’ve told you?”
She shrugged. She drew a shock of hair sideways to its full length and stared at it with distaste, as if wondering where all that hair came from. It was a mannerism he’d seen before, a sure sign she was fading fast.

Non capisco cosa intenda quel "fading". Potrebbe significare che si stava arrendendo alla verità? Come renderlo?

la stava perdendo


Explanation:
tradotto letteralmente è "lei stava svanendo velocemente".
Può voler dire che sta perdendo la sua attenzione perché lei si sta ritirando in sè stessa, o che la sta veramente perdendo (se è la sua ragazza).
La frase che propongo mantiene l'ambiguità anche in italiano.
