You win some, you lose some.
It might apply in many situations when "Никогда не знаешь, где найдешь, где потеряешь" is used.
Another variation: You win a few, you lose a few.
You cannot always succeed. You can say this when you have not succeeded, to show that you are not discouraged.

More possibilities:
What you lose on the roundabouts you gain on the swings (or vice versa).
Life has its ups and downs.
Swings of fortune are unpredictable.
You never know when the fortune will smile or frown.
Strictly speaking most of them are not idioms, but convey the meaning well, in my opinion.

Well, I've had a good day and no mistake
“I have nothing in the world against you, my good man,” said Holmes. “On the contrary, I have half a sovereign for you if you will give me a clear answer to my questions.”
“Well, I've had a good day and no mistake,” said the cabman, with a grin. “What was it you wanted to ask, sir?”
