English term

PR and PRX type OLT PMD Transmit Characteristics

English to Spanish Tech/Engineering Telecom(munications) Network design and loss budgets
This is the title of a chart on power budgets.

It has already been explained in the document that:
PR=symmetric
PRX= assymetric
OLT=Optical Line Termination
PMD=Polarization Mode Dispersion

Now, I have trouble putting together a title in Spanish which will make sense, using these abbreviations.

Can anybody help me?

Thank you very much.

Hi Robin, thank you for your concern. It is explained in the IEEE document. You can find the link in Daniel's answer.

Tipos de presupuesto de pérdida PR y PRX? I'm sure your client knows best - after all, it's his text, not ours. But I fail to see how 'PR' ends up being an abbreviation for 'presupuesto de pérdida'. The English words for that concept would more likely have the initials 'B'udget or 'B'alance along with maybe 'L'oss or 'A'attenuation.

In most texts I've read on the subject, the 'P' refers to polarization (that same polarization which is 'dispersed' in 'P'MD) and 'PR' often refers to a 'p'olarization 'r'otator (rotador de polarización).
Clafification of the concept hidden behind PR in your author's document is critical to building a valid title for the table of characteristics.

Thank you for your input. I need to leave the abbreviations in English according to my customer's request.

PR and PRX have been assigned by the author of the manual.

When translating the title into Spanish, I have trouble deciding about the order of the abbreviatons and simply request help in this sense. I know the translation of each abbreviation.

Thanks again.

What exactly are you looking for? Do you want to build a Spanish title using the proper Spanish abbreviations? If so, you should ask four separate questions, one for each English abbreviation.

Or:
Do you want to build a Spanish title which retains the English abbreviations, assuming your readers will understand? If so, this is not a 'terminology' question and should probably not be posted in Kudoz.

Or:
Do you want to build a Spanish title which spells out the full meaning of each abbreviation - in which case your title will be at least 10 times longer than the English title. And in this case, again, multiple terms require multiple Kudoz.

BTW, it is not strictly correct to say that PR/PRX equate to symmetric/asymmetric - The presence or absence of 'X' denotes the degree of symmetry; that leaves the meaning of 'PR' to be determined (3 options come to mind...), but we don't have enough context here to allow any degree of certainty.

Note from asker:
Hola Daniel, gracias por interpretar mi pedido y por tu sugerencia. Tantas abreviaturas juntas me impedían darle sentido.
