French term or phrase: cravate
This is an item within a list of products offered by a design agency. It's just a word on its own with no context. I have asked the client for further explanation, and they gave me this:
In my opinion it doesn't actually mean a cardboard cut-out of a tie. It's some kind of long, strip-shaped promotional material. Any ideas? Thanks.

clip strip
Explanation:
The name of the page on the first ref is clip strip and there are plenty of hits for that term. The second ref shows more of a "hook-on" or "hanger" affair.

agree  Leslie Marcus: I posted a question in the discussion, but I think Emma is right. Wikipedia also gives "merchandising strip" as a generic synonym of "clip strip"

I tried "vertical" in my search string and came up with this (which is not the answer)
Vertical Sets Are Best
Research has proven that the best set for the refrigerated salad dressings is a vertical set, merchandised next to bagged salads. Some of the poorest performing sets for refrigerated salad dressings are horizontal sets, merchandised above or below the packaged salads.

Placing baby diapers with other products such as wipes, formula, food and toys is just one strategy to drive sales in this category.
THE IMPERATIVES:
When it comes to shelf placement, strategically placing baby diapers in a vertical set or "ribbon fashion" creates a strong presence for the private label program.

But it eventually led me to this:

CLIPSTRIP
A merchandising tool that can be fastened in various areas throughout store USED TO CROSS MERCHANDISE product. It consists of a vertical bulb with clips attached.
Cross Merchandising
PLACING PRODUCTS IN SPECIAL DISPLAYS WITH RELATED-USE ITEMS, e.g., tea pots with tea, salt, and peppershakers on shelf extenders with salt, pepper, and spices. Also refers to displaying high-demand/low-profit and high-profit/low-demand items near each other.

A CLIP STRIP is a retail product display, so named because it is a length of material (either plastic or metal) with clips or hooks at regular intervals, upon which merchandise is hung. The clip strip is then hung off a shelf or end-cap and serves as AN IMPULSE BUY to a customer wandering the aisles of a store. Though the term "CLIP STRIP" IS A REGISTERED TRADEMARK of Clip Strip Corp (the company that invented and produced the first "clip strip"), many display and POP professionals use the term synonymously with "MERCHANDISING STRIPS" - the generic term for these clever display products.
