English term

AE Exclusion

English to Italian Medical Medical: Pharmaceuticals Mechanical heart valves
In my experience AE is usually Adverse Event but in that particular instance it does not make much sense to me. It is listed, with no further reference nor additional context, in a table of the Withdrawal Causes for patients of a study on anticoagulation therapy applied to a special brand of mechanical valve:
The causes are:
"AE Exclusion
Early death
Repair
Double or not *** (valve brand)
Patient withdrew
Labs Problem
No Surgery
Lost to Follow-up"
In my opinon it may simply mean "excluded because of an Adverse Event" though AE exclusion sounds odd as a way to say it.

Esclusione dovuta a eventi avversi

evento avverso

It can be one of the off-study criteria according to statistical considerations, indeed, it is quite common that in case patients experience important toxicities they are excluded from further therapies! I would definitely translate it as adverse event.
