French term

support fixe / mobile

French to English Marketing Advertising / Public Relations
"les collections publicitaires sur **supports fixes** (affiches, annonces) et **mobiles** (films documentaires, et spots télévisés)".

It's clear what it means but I'm stuck trying to think of the equivalent in English. Thanks in advance for any help.

static/animated media

I'm pretty sure of static for "fixe" but there may be something better than "animated" for mobile.

Maybe, I just think the point here is that one moves and the other doesn't.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Went for static/moving in the end, which the client seemed happy with. But also thought print/broadcast came close, so thanks to all for the various contributions."

neutral B D Finch : Wouldn't a poster on the side of a bus be "mobile advertising"?

print (, poster) and electronic media

I don't think there is a similarly snappy English equivalent.

According to Wikipedia, which is of course not infallible and I am a bit uncomfortable with calling film "electronic", though it often is:

"Electronic media and print media include:

* Broadcasting, in the narrow sense, for radio and television.
* Many instances of various types of recorded discs or tapes. In the 20th century, these were mainly used for music. Video and computer uses followed.
* Film, most often used for entertainment, but also for documentaries.
* The Internet, which has many uses and presents both opportunities and challenges. Examples can include Blogs and podcasts (such as news, music, pre-recorded speech, and video)
* Mobile phones, which can be used for rapid breaking news and short clips of entertainment like jokes, horoscopes, alerts, games, music, and advertising
* Publishing, including electronic publishing
* Video games, which have developed into a mass form of media since cutting-edge devices such as the PlayStation 3, XBox 360, and Wii broadened their use."

neutral Emma Paulay : I also thought of distinguishing between print and "other", but would you say "electronic" for TV?//But when you say electronic media, you don't think TV, you think internet.

TVs are electronic. //Personally, I think TV and radio too (and would even I didn't listen to internet radio as well as FM and if the TV wasn't streamed via my modem). When "electronic" is put alongside "print media", I think that helps clarify it.

Perhaps a compromise between Emma's suggestion and that of B.D. Finch?
