a submission for the funding of a project.
I have found that rendement can mean efficiency or performance. I would like confirmation that the translation is indeed 'high efficiency' or 'high performance'. But I suppose I don't really understand what 'high performance conditions' are. Thanks for any help.

I would use high output in the first paragraph and high efficiency in the second.

: Yes, Terry, you have the right idea here. I"m not sure personally what is best, but I'm afraid that "efficiency" won't work for every case here. That's great that you caught this. We often have to "refine" in English the generic abstract word in French.

: I think rendement in this context does refer to efficiency, i.e. getting the highest energy to waste ratio out of every unit of fuel

high efficiency
I believe it's referring to the fuel in / power out efficiency, though I don't think it's necessary or desirable to mention 'fuel' as such.
I believe that 'performance' is a slightly different idea, not immediatly associated with the specific context here.

Discussion
French will often use what I call "multi-purpose" words; that is, the meaning of the "generic" French word requires a specific word in English according to the context. So, we have to find that "right" as well more "specific" word in English to properly convey the meaning naturally.
May I know use a most wonderful example? Rendez-vous.
