La redacción del texto no es fácil por lo que comprendo tus dudas. En la primera frase se establece la situación cualitativa general e la finca: las especies presentes sin establecer proporciones.
En la segunda frase se establecen proporciones en dos sitios (¿plots?) de la finca:
"Mientras que en los dos sitios únicamente esta proporción es inversa"
Lo interesante y confuso es el uso del término "unicamente".

¿Podríamos decirlo de otra forma?: "Sólo en los dos sitios (¿bajo investigacón?) la proporción es inversa a la presente en el resto de la finca" o en otros terminos "la proporción se invierte".

Si este es el caso creo que reversed es más preciso, aunque no creo que se pueda decir "is reversed", sino "gets reversed" si es parte de un proceso. Pero como aparentemente esta es simplemente la constatación de un status quo creo que lo correcto sería redactar como: "there is a reversed proportion".
