I've also come across 'Thermal ablation of varicose vein by hyperheated steam' or 'obliteration' instead of ablation/sclerosis - but I'm beginning to wonder if these are (correct) translations from German ....

Explanation:
'Veroedung' is sclerotherapy, a standard term.

I found a website ( a phlebology congress to take place in 4/ 2010) where they mention this new method of sclerotherapy:

Other methods are conventional sclerotherapy [ where a liquid medicine is injected directly into the diseased varicose vein ] and foam sclerotherapy...

My dad is a phlebologist so I've had a closer look at these various methods... Steam sclerotherapy is new, though.
