"Je diagonaler der Schnittwinkel desto feiner wird die Effilierung."

From a text about scissors, which I think are used in hairdressing. I have absolutely no idea what "Effilierung" means, and can't find a translation for it anywhere. TIA for any light you can shed on this most obscure word.
