profit on the order/project

If a company provides services under a long term contract, it is accounted for on the basis of the work performed so far (at the balance sheet date) so the income is calculated on the basis of the percentage of the work done. However, this income is normally calculated and recognised in the accounts only on the basis of costs (not including the profit), until cash is actually received for the work done, when the profit is recognised.

Project margin

"Margin" is more appropriate in accounting/financial jargon: it is calculated deducting project direct costs from total project revenues.
General or overall company costs deducted from this margin identify profits.
