holgados

Spanish to English Tech/Engineering Mechanics / Mech Engineering

Discussion

margaret caulfield Jan 14, 2010:
Hi again, Kathleen, Having read your comments, I entirely go along with Noni. I think we've all had some "nasty" experience to this effect. However, it's a shame we let these people affect our normal way of doing things. It makes me feel that we're "letting the baddies win". Cheers!
Noni Gilbert Riley Jan 14, 2010:
Ah yes The sensibilities... And well done to get it sorted out - I've had to appeal a couple of times to moderators to get offensive responses removed and to suggest to those originating the comments that they aren't getting the point of Proz!

So I understand completely your inclination to let sleeping dogs lie.
Kathleen Misson (asker) Jan 14, 2010:
Thanks Noni. I had a terrible experience on proz recently when I chose an incorrect answer. The person was very abusive and has since been removed from the site. Hence I am hesitant about making an entry when I am not 100% sure.
Noni Gilbert Riley Jan 14, 2010:
Glossary I appreciate your caution Kathleen. For me the question is always whether a glossary entry would be useful - I often want to put caveats in an entry, but at the same time want to make the entry because the references may be useful for future consultations - even and possibly especially if the context is different.
margaret caulfield Jan 13, 2010:
Hi Kathleen, I don't believe it's a case of "passing judgement". All you have to do is choose one of the answers given or another you may have found yourself. No judging is involved here.
Kathleen Misson (asker) Jan 13, 2010:
Hi all. Sorry not to give a grading but I don't think it would be helpful for future references for me as a non-expert to pass any kind of judgement on this! I appreciate your help. Thank you.

loose

As in the opposite of apretado. Need confirmation that this would be appropriate here since I don't completely follow the context.

http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ajuste Tells you about types of fit: Las piezas con ajustes muy holgados son piezas móviles con mucha tolerancia que tienen mucho juego y giran libremente.

The concept of different types of fits in joins seems to work like this in English: "Class 1 is a loose fit. class 2 is a free fit, class 3 is a medium fit, and class 4 is a close fit. "books.google.co.uk/books?isbn=0071348360... (Section about aircraft bolts).

Yes, and thank you.
disagree Rosa Paredes : Not in this context. Happy 2010!

Comment happily accepted! HNY too!
neutral margaret caulfield : Noni, no te quiero dar un "disagree" porque no, pero creo que si los alojamientos estuvieran "loose", se moverían mucho y lo que tienen que moverse son los rodamientos dentro del alojamiento.

Thanks for the comment - especially with the explanation. HNY!
