German term
verblendmetallkeramikkrone
German to English
Medical
Medical: Dentistry
It has something to do with making a dental crown; I want to know what the term equates to in English so I can ask my home dentist about the treatment I am getting in Germany from a non-Anglophone dentist.

A porcelain-fused-to-metal crown (PFM) could be considered to be a hybrid of the other types of crowns, in the sense that it is composed of two different types of materials. One is a metal alloy that is used to create that portion of the crown that fits directly on the tooth. The other is porcelain. The porcelain forms the tooth-shaped aspect of the crown and gives the crown a white tooth-like coloration.

Metallkeramikkrone (VMK-Krone = Metall-Keramik-Verbundsystem)
engl.: porcelain fused-to-metal
http://www.fugina.de/index.php?area=lexi_kronen
Vollkeramikkronen und -brücken, engl.: complete or full ceramics
Verblendschale/Veneer, engl.: veneer

metal-ceramic crown
"The metal-ceramic crown system still is selected the most frequently because of its strength and versatility."

I agree with this, though I have posted a simpler alternative.

veneer(ed) ceramo-metal crown
There are two important parts of the original term:
Verblend- ... and Metalkeramik ... (and even a third one: Krone)
So we have the English terms (only to give an alternative to "porcelain-fused-to-metal" or "porcelain-fused-on-metal") -> "ceramo-metal", and "ceramo-metal crowns".
The Verblend- part should not be omitted (see Susanne's reference made on "veneer"), so my suggestion is:
-> veneered ceramo-metal crown, or
-> ceramo-metal crown restoration with (porcelain?) veneer
(for the second expression you should know the veneer material IMO)

To my understanding, Verbund (-> fused in the expression in question) is different to Verblend... (the source term dows include "Verblend!") but after some more research, I see that this is really not necessary, as veneer(ed) does not add anything relevant to "porcelain-fused-to-metal" (= somewhat "doppelt-gemoppelt).

Here an English description - confirming that you do not need to include “veneer”, porcelain-fused-to-metal crown is sufficient:

: sorry, but there are hardly any ghits for this version. "Verblendet" means that the porcelain is fused on the metal; so there is nothing missing in my version - for which there are 6 mio. ghits .... "veneers" in my ref are a completely different thing
