German term

ist die vom Auftraggeber...dem Auftragnehmer...

German to English Tech/Engineering Automotive / Cars & Trucks
DanTe ist die vom Auftraggeber für das gemeinsame Fehlermanagement dem Auftragnehmer vorgeschriebene Infrastruktur.

I am having trouble breaking this sentence down, knowing who is responisble for what, and how it all translates into English! I am using terms 'Contracting Body' for Auftragnehmer and 'Contractor' for Auftraggeber, just to simplify things. I have possibly read it too many times!

Thanks to any translator who can help.

Phil G.- I wrongly chose these terms at the beginning and am waiting to get out of TagEditor to change the terms over all the way through the document!

Thanks to all for quick responses! For now I'm going with Darin's suggestions.

by the contracting body ... for the contractor

DanTe is the infrastructure prescribed by the contracting body for the contractor to use for joint error management.

Or you could rewrite it: "The contracting body requires that the contractor use ..."
Note from asker:
thank you all!
Peer comment(s):

agree philgoddard : "Client" might be a better translation for Auftraggeber - I think contracting body is ambiguous because it could refer to either party.

It could be ambiguous, but as long as it's consistent throughout the document, it will be clear. Typically the term would be explicitly defined in the document.

prescribed

I think I'd do it this way:
DanTe is the infrastructure for joint fault management that the contractor has prescribed for use by the contracting body.
Peer comment(s):

neutral philgoddard : This is fine except you've got "contractor" and "contracting body" the wrong way round.

Yes, you're right.
neutral Darin Fitzpatrick : Yours is clearer than my initial attempt.
