Penso che in questo caso "rigido" non sia la traduzione più efficace per "rigid". Visto che la frase fa riferimento alla flessione in corrispondenza della tenuta e a usura e rotture, secondo me si rifersce al fatto che la struttura è meccanicamente solida. Indico un link di esempio
