Thanks for all the feedback. At first I wondered if perhaps there was a distinction in this industry between below ground with respect to the Earth's surface and below ground with respect to the sea floor surface.

agree  Kathryn Litherland: It seems that "buried assets" is used more in conjunction with buried utilities, which makes sense--with drilling equip. there is no "burying" involved, until buried utilities. I'd also suggest "assets" for propiedad here.
