English term or phrase: control committee or controlling committee?
Is there any difference between using "control" and "controlling" with the word "committee"? When searching Google, it seems they're used interchangeably - by reliable sources.

Thanks for your help.

"Control committee" would be used for a committee set up to perform a control function. It could the the name of a committee, in which case "Control Committee". "Controlling committee" would be a committee that, among its other functions, controls the matter in question but which does not have this as its sole or principal purpose.

Both are correct depending on how you want to call it

Explanation:
Like you said, they are used interchangeably by reliable sources, but according to Google searches, I find "Control Committee" more often than "Controlling Committee", except that the number of hits are higher in the latter than the former.

steering committee

Explanation:
That is what we use here at my company. You get the managers on that committee and then the worker bees down in the trenches.
