Habla un ciclista profesional que corre carreras para la Copa del Mundo. En este caso comenta de una carrera que se llama Four Cross (compiten cuatro pilotos en simultaneo en un circuito en bajada por una colina. Gana el primero en llegar a la meta.)

Está en relación con las carreras de automóviles, y el sentido es que al quedar detrás de los demás autos se recibe el humo de sus caños de escape.

No es lo mismo en carreras de bicicletas, obviamente, pero el lector comprende fácilmente la alusión.

Tanbién podría ser "quedé último desde la línea de largada", o "fuí el último en salir", etc.
