From a course in learning how to give more effective presentations. Slowing the progress of ideas...? A little help on this would be much appreciated.

...or "[the] addition of new terms." My suggestion is based on the following explanation; there may be a term of art that I am not aware of in this subject, hence my low confidence level.

"Der Lernende kann einen Text nur dann verstehen, wenn ihm die verwendeten Termini entweder bekannt sind oder wenn diese im Text erläutert werden. Im Zweifelsfall sollten dabei Fachbegriffe auch aus Randgebieten erläutert und nicht als bekannt vorausgesetzt werden Treten zwei neue Begriffe innerhalb eines Satzes auf, entsteht für den Lernenden die Gefahr, daß ein ihm unbekannter Begriff mit einem anderen ihm ebenfalls unbekannten Begriff erklärt wird. Dies blockiert das Verständnis.

Bei einem redundanzarmen Lehrbuchtext übersteigt bei normalem Lesen der didaktische Informationsfluß die Gedächtniskapazität um den Faktor 10 - 20. Das heißt von einem redundanzarmen Text werden nicht mehr als S - 10 % behalten. Eine ausführliche und variierende Darstellung kann dieses Mißverständnis zwischen Wahrnehmungsgeschwindigkeit und Einlerngeschwindigkeit mildern (WELTNER, 1973). Dazu ist der Begriffsfortschritt innerhalb des Textes zu begrenzen. Neueingeführte Begriffe müssen in wechselndem Zusammenhang verwandt werden, damit der Lernende einen Oberblick über das Begriffsnetz gewinnt.

Diese Ausführlichkeit ist auch deshalb notwendig, weil in der Lernsituation die Bezüge zu Nachbargebieten nicht als bekannt vorausgesetzt werden dürfen und zu erläutern sind."

Begriff also has the meaning of the ability to understand, and used as follows: schwer (langsam) von Begriff sein, meaning slow in understanding.
So, just my guess, but slowing the progress of ability to understand may fit here.

  -> It seems (based on the article I linked) that most people are often unable to assimilate new information as quickly as it is presented, hence the need to slow down the pace at which new words are introduced (to give the brain a chance to work them out).
