I recently received the following interesting information from Bruno Koch on this question.
"Both terms have a history with roots in the US. There
E-Billing (also EBPP) is the term for bills sent to
consumers, whereas E-Invoicing (also EIPP) is used for
invoices sent to companies.
In some European countries, the terms are used in the same
sense, whereas others do not distinguish. The European
market has its own dynamics regarding terms. Some market
players use the term E-Billing describing the issuing
process (on sender side) and E-Invoicing describing the
process on recipient side.
Due to this confusion, I have tried in the past to help the
market with a Glossary for insiders:
http://www.expp-summit.com/glossary.htmAs the market in Europe is using both terms exchangeable, I
do the same. In the UK, E-Billing is more popular, whereas
on the continent E-Invoicing seems to make the race."
